Four Fifths (wood print | green and purple on a yellow background)I love sugar skulls. My idea for this drawing also inspired my idea for this entire series of drawings and a new direction for my art. I wanted to draw a detailed sugar skull and decided I wanted a sort of sun burst background but I wanted it to have a pattern texture to it. So I added a kind of antique wallpaper pattern to a sunburst of melaleuca tree bark. Made perfect sense to me. This is also the first piece that I colorized. It was too much fun

I really like the texture of the flamingo that I came up with and what better way to add a pattern than to add a flamingo wallpaper as the background

I once read of an ancient myth that the earth was formed on the back of a turtle traveling through the cosmos

and alien at the same time

The elephants skin was inspired a a type of sea coral and I added the fire to add a sense of luck that is smoldering under the surface almost unattainable

I combined African and Australian tribal patterns for the background to help accentuate the origin mythology

In researching Argonauts I found some cool pics of the argonaut octopus and thought it would be a good combination with a ships wheel because it is named after the ancient Greek sailors
