roman dagger dura europosDura Europos was a fortified city founded around 303 BC on the bank of the river Euphrates (in present day Syria). Around the year 165 AD it was conquered by the Romans. It was a lively place where different cultures from the Roman Empire came together; several places of worship have been found here. Dura Europos was excavated in the 1920s, when many murals and archaeological objects were recovered. The scabbard of this dagger is based on fragments
